There is one thing we all seek to have, and that is hope. Hope is found in Jesus Christ, through the gospel.
"For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God." Romans 3:23
“As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:” Romans 3:10
Sin is any act that is contrary to God’s Word, and our sin is what keeps us from Heaven. Although you may be a good person, any good work or deed cannot take away your sin.
"For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Romans 6:23
A wage is something that is earned, and because of our sin, what we earn is spiritual death.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16
"But God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." Romans 5:8
God provided a way for our sins to be forgiven.
“…but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." Romans 6:23b
“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” Ephesians 2:8&9
Salvation is a gift, and a gift is not something that is earned. God offers to you his free gift of salvation, through his Son Jesus.
Calling on the name of the Lord for salvation would be the best decision of your life! Praying a prayer is not what saves you, what matters is what is in your heart. If you understand these truths and want to call on the Lord, pray something similar to the following prayer:
Dear Jesus, I know I am a sinner and I cannot make it to Heaven on my own. I believe you died for me and paid for my sins. I am calling on you to be my Saviour and to take me to Heaven when I die. Please forgive me of my sins, and save me. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
